That they need to listen to their vehicle. I went to move it today so I could park my truck in the driveway and I noticed many worrying sounds. I cant understand how they can just not care about the health of their vehicle. Also, I accidentally parked it in drive last time I drove it. Whoops, I guess I forgot how to drive auto. And Please excuse my slurring, My jaw is still a little stiff from my wisdom teeth removal.

I advised them to take it to our mechanic

This is why every time I go home I drive my mom's car. She can't hear a lot of things, and other problems come on gradually. Diagnosed a wheel bearing once, she said "of course not!" Couple weeks later she told me she'd had it repaired. Refused to admit I'd told her about it. Another time the pedal was to the floor.

The worst part is my dad has kinda a short fuse so it went from him saying its fine to hime screaming ITS FINE DONT WORRY ABOUT IT at me. So its extra aggravating. The funny part is the drive belt is worn, I just replaced my drive belt earlier today. I could have picked up a belt for a J series as well and done both my truck and the Odyssey had I noticed it earlier

The way most people learn is the hard way. From their blatant ignorance towards maintenance, it sounds like the only way they're going to learn. That's how my girlfriend's parents learned when their Camry with only 120k on the clock blew from oil starvation.

Maybe, Thats Why I said take it to our mechanic. I dont wanna deal with a transverse V6 pulley replacement

Whats really sad is our Odyssey is actually in really decent shape. Only 95k miles, original engine and trans. I'd hate to see it go to the scrapyard due to sheer ignorance

He's a grown ass man. If his car breaks, it breaks. He can take it to the shop and rent a car. Do your parents drive stick? If not, maybe you'll end up driving your parents around.

My dad drives stick quite well, He's one of very few people that I trust to drive my truck. My mom supposedly knows how as well, But I have never seen her drive stick.

A belt I could do, But a pulley is too much hassle for me. I'm glad my 4.0 is not transversely mounted, I have easy access to everything

Hope the timing belt has been changed or is planning on being changed in the near future. The change interval is 10 years or 105k miles on it. That'll fuck the engine up for sure. I think that's is what partially caused the death of the Camry, 120k and the original timing belt.

Just leave it as it is, He'll eventually realize that there is something wrong with it and then bring it into the shop.

Regarding leaving the shifter in drive, once I drove my Mom's Kia Cadenza (For the record, she can drive manual and drives my dad's 5.0) after driving my Mustang for awhile. I knew to put the shifter in park, but I had turned off the car before doing so. The Kia doesn't like it, the car immediately start giving out a long beep and even with putting the car in P it won't stop. So you have to turn the car on and then off. Unless I'm doing something completely wrong there. Either way this whole modern car stuff confuses me!

But ya, there are a lot of people who just don't care about their cars. It's kind surprising considering a car not being up to date could be a huge safety risk to the people in the car and around the car.

Thought I might have heard a groan from the steering pump and perhaps an engine tick as well. Hard to tell from a video. Either way, it needs to be checked out.

I don't feel safe driving my dad's Cobalt. He just bought the shittiest of shit knock off brand tires. Before which I found him a good set of Dunlops that cost less. The steering and brakes have always felt completely dead. Even brand new you get this pulsing feel like the rotors are warped from the factory, in addition to not feeling like they can effectively stop the car.

I just don't understand how someone can let a car go due to oil starvation. It takes like 30 seconds to check the oil.

I have it on good authority that the timing belt/water pump (why not do it too? it's right there ...) takes a lot of labor. The stuff is buried. Still, no reason not to do it. There should be a law - only timing chains.

Everything has to be replaced at some point. I've heard of timing chains failing before; it's uncommon but it happens. Don't think that it can't happen to you.

My dad took OK care of his endless stream of no option Chevy Impalas. I remember once suggesting a repair - I want to say it was a radiator hose. Whatever it was, the car overheated and spit it's coolant onto the pavement. I went and got him. There was also an alternator on a Dodge Coronet. He thought it was the battery. That time I got him to do the repair.

Those 2nd gen Odysseys were pretty robust. If it hasn't been touched then it just needs some TLC - 90,000 mi service, timing belt, brakes, trans flush, coolant flush, maybe new water pump and/or belt pulley bearing. It sounds like the oil is low too with all that valve tick - maybe check that first since it's the cheapest/easiest to remedy.

Mine is better. Curved gauges life. The gauge moves, as does the needle. On the small ones, that is.

I had that issue at first and didnt ghost clutch. I corrected that because its unsafe, Now I ghost clutch at startup, but I always have a sinking feeling like I'm forgetting something as I drive an automatic.
